Slaying the panfish with the kiddies

So I got out fishing with Jane and Dana a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast. Here are a few pics of them in action. I was a proud papa.

Millipedes & Caterpillars

OK, all the TP in my previous blog is long gone, hence it's been a while since I've done this. I even forgot my password at first....

So, here are a couple of cool pics of a Cloudland Canyon millepede taken by my friend Nick Olig while he was visiting from Milwaukee. While taking the photo, Nick insisted that millipedes didn't bite, so I tried to get him to climb on my hand but he wasn't interested. After the pic, Nick wasn't quite so confident in his memory about them not biting when it was HIS hand he was sticking in front of the thing....

Also posted a caterpillar pic from the park today. Anyone know what kind?

So, what's the deal with millipedes, centipedes, and caterpillars, do some or any of these things bite or sting? Calling all bug-geeks for a comment.....

If you're not a bug geek but still would like to have a question you can intelligently respond to, here you go: If you had to eat either a millipede, centipede, or caterpillar (a big fat one, no inchworms, etc....) which would you choose and why? How would you prepare it? If the recipe was really good, would you share it or be selfish?

TP Tribute to Scott

This is a monument to all the Scotts in my life: Scott Gast, Scott Riley, Scott Kennedy, and Stephen Scott.

We buy our TP in bulk, and were trying to find a place to store it, so I built this idol above our toilet as a surprise to Karen. I wish I could say that she loved it. Maybe my friends will, and I'll get some utility out of this unorthodox domestic maneuver after all?

M. Ward

I came across M. Ward while listening to Pandora.com and he has become my favorite of late. I guess I'd describe him as a americana/folk/county/son volt but oh so much more than all that. I'll try to post a couple of links that play his stuff on quicktime on my mac, maybe other players, too....

Anybody familiar with this guy? I've been asking but have found no one. Check it out, tell me what you think!

The Moose Lodge???

My little brother, Phillip Monahan, is the king of monikers. All my high school friends were appointed with quasi-arbitrarily given names. Ty Willison went from Ty, to “Ty Cobb,” to “The Cobbster,” to “Cobby,” to “CobbEEE” (extreme accent on last syllable), to Cobbiaire (or however you would write that Frenchish EEE AIR sound). To this day, I still call him CobbEEE more than I do Ty.

I went through the Seattle band-wannabe grunge phase in HS and so my brother and his preppy-jock friends thought I was, indeed, pretty grungy. So, Phil called me “Muskrat Matt” after this sketchy character in some beer commercial. From there it became “Mooscrat Matt” to “Mooscrat” and then many variants spun off such as “Moose,” “Moosie,” MooChezMo” and such. So now, when he comes to visit me, where is his destination? You got it, "The Moose Lodge!”

You’d never guess that Phil was the middle child, huh? (supposedly middle children are supposed to be entertainers, Phil certainly is. The guy is hilarious).

Below is are pictures of him with my new daughter, Clara, with Jeremy Roerdink and I fishing, and kissing a Striped Bass.

Phil is also a techie living out in Lake Tahoe, CA. He is in the process of moving back to the east coast, and will end up in Charlotte unless I can intervene and find him a job here in Chattanooga at a place like Coptix or 3HD.

I'll post his resume below. Let me know if any of you have any tech connections for this guy....
